it gets worse and worse. it keeps getting a deeper red and deeper, the flow is not the greatest. its a 72 bow and flow in about 300 gph. The new pump is on the way, quiet one 4000. about 1020 gph.

looks link canyo whats prams suck what you can out with turkey baster increase flow and reduce nutrients

1. Manually remove as much as possible (siphoning/vacumming)
2. Increase water change frequency
3. Replace Bulbs in lighting system (if aged)
4. Run Carbon
5. Run GFO (phosphate remover)
6. Switch from tap water to RO/DI
7. If you have RO/DI already, check TDS of water and replace filter elements if necessary
8. Reduce feeding frequency
9. Change filter pads/socks more frequently

If you can tackle most of these above methods, you should see a reduction in the cyano. It will be a battle, so be prepared. Also, once you've implemented these action plans (only once you've performed these things), shut off the tank lights for a couple days to really provide the final nail in the coffin. But be patient, it may take a while :)

I agree with all above. I've always had the best luck battling cyanobacteria by just adjusting or adding flow to get more flow into the effected areas. I don't know that cyanobacteria is light sensitive, so I don't know if turning out lights for a couple of days will help or not.

turning off the lights for 2 or 3 days will help but as stated you need to eliminate the source of the problem following the above recommendations.

i have the new pump coming, the last time i turned off the lights my mushrooms were gone. will i loose my other coral?? pulsing zenia. zoas. kenyr tree. pink star polyp and anthelia

You could even take the rocks out of the tank and clean them off in a bucket of old tank water. This way it doesn't get everywhere in the tank.
