The xenia is a a 20 high, with 80 watt PC 50/50...you know the deal,
the water params are great...and yada yada yada (ya i know sienfeld) , but what im really tryin to get at is will the xenia do better on the lower ledge than the hihger ledge about 6 in. from the water line... could the xenia be scrunching up and dying because of how close it is to the water line (and maybe it cant spread out) will it do better on the lower level with more vertical space?... should I move it to an even lower level? or should it go back up top and just wait out that the xenia could just be dieing off for no reason?

Our xenia died off for no reason. All other corals were fine, and water was good. Seem to flourish then one day wham it started dieing. We had a kenya tree do the same thing. The only 2 corals we ever lost.

Xenia like dirtier water. Mine didn't seem to thrive until I added a few more fish and am feeding more. Now there thriving. If your water's to clean they don't seem to thrive as much.

my xenia and kenya tree begin to wilt when there is a lack of phosphates/nitrates in the water.

healthy xenia tells me there are still sources of phosphate in the tank, even if its being used up very quickly.

I gotta ask Whats going on with the a-crate in the tank? Is this some kind of expiremental thing? Just curious.

ya pretty much experimental, I just moved all my things from my ten gallon two weeks ago, which had a large crack in it...the xenia were thriving(they tripled the # of stalks in one month) and when i put em in the 20 they did ok for the first few days...but then they started to decline...I just wanna know where in the tank I should put the xenia...up near the top again...where i had em less than an our ago?

could the xenia be scrunching up and dying because of how close it is to the water line (and maybe it cant spread out)
Nope, I doubt that's the problem. I had several stalks of xenia attach to the back glass and "climb" their way up all the way to the water line -- where they've lived for well over a year, happily extending their polyps downward  When I do a water change, their bases are totally exposed to the air, and they just droop down, patiently waiting for more water.

I had some Xenia die off when I first added them to my tank. They almost totally disappreared, were only stumps of flesh, and then they came back one day. They are stronger and better thanever now??? This coral is hit or miss.

Reef safe, yes...or thought to be!!!

Reef safe, yes...or thought to be!!!

OMG!!! JUST MINUTES AGO I HAD A MAJOR BREAK THROUGH IN THE CASE(LOL!)

I was observing the xenia when I suddenly saw my Stripped damsel comeover and take a huge chunk of one of the stocks off...totally ate it and chewed it up!!:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: , OMG!

Damsels are REEF SAFE!!!

We HAVE TO RE-WRITE THE BOOKS!

lol
EDIT:btw thanks for your help guys

Was the 20g already setup or did you set it up once you took down the 10g? If you just setup the 20g, and even though you used water from the 10g, you should have some cycling going on in that new tank. If it was already setup for a while then I wouldnt worry about it.

I have a small chunk of xenia in my 75, and when I say small I mean small, less than 2" tall. This was "rescued" from a clump of caulerpa that I was given by my LFS when I was collecting aiptasia to feed the berghia i was attempting to breed. It was at one time about 4" tall and thriving, until it got too close to a leather. It then shriveled up to a small "nub" with what looked like bumps where the polyps used to be. Over the course of 2 months though it has bounced back nicely and actually pulses now, something it never did before. Xenia is weird stuff.
