well I would say plan for what you ultimately want, don't go with a soft coral tank if you want an sps tank eventually. If you like the movement of softies and LPS then plan for that, but if you ultimately want sps then start with some of the hardier species of sps. Monti caps, slimers, birdsnest, etc. Honestly SPS is certainly more demanding in regards to parameters but I think ppl get hung up on so many of these things that they forget you should be doing all of those things with a soft coral tank as well. The main difference is that a soft coral tank will probably be more forgiving if you start slacking off and the corals themselves tend to do a lil better with nutrients in the tank. Most sps systems are ultra low nutrients. I will say if you are talking about only adding a very small amount of fish and go slow with additions then you have a chance to get used to your tank and see how it responds to your husbandry.
