What Size Bulkhead/Plumbing?

I'm at the plumbing phase of my reef plans. I have 4 holes cut for bulkheads - is there a guide that tells me what diameter the hole is = what size bulkhead/plumbing?

I'll measure in the morning.

In my case - I had the tank custom built w/ external overflow. If I recall - I have (2) 1" & (2) 3/4".... but I have slept since then. Kinda forgot.

Will check the diameters & look up on BRS since I'm ordering plumbing from them.

Officially I have:

(2) 1.75" holes (1" plumbing)

(2) 1.5" holes (3/4" plumbing)

I really wanted to use Sched 80 bulkheads, but it appears these holes are not large enough. Am I correct in my thinking?

The bottom of the external overflow is pvc. In this case, is it difficult to enlarge holes for sched 80? Or just leave it alone & use sched 40 bulkheads?

You could widen the holes using a dremel to size it for the schedule 80 bulkheads. My buddy just helped me do this for my return line bulkheads but this was for at the top of the tank.

I am not sure but I think there's no sch 40 bulkheads. Only ABS or sch 80 bulkheads available.

Anyone have a suggestion on tool (maybe a dremel ) that I can use to enlarge holes slightly & easily myself?

A link to product would be great. Reminder, I'm cutting thru pvc.

So why not a regular drill/driver that we already have?

I guess you can use a regular drill bit, but I've usually used the one that came with the Dremel kit. I have a Rotozip and the drill bit that came with it seem's sharper and my guess is made for shaving off stuff vs drilling a hole

For example, to shave off, buy a special attachment like this one, http://www.lowes.com/pd_94887-353-9933-03_0__ and attach it to a regular drill (and sanding by hand). Will it work or it's for a Dremel kit only?

Yes... basically with this tool I will be shaving the hole to enlarge it?

I like this idea as I really want to use sched 80 bulkheads. They might be overkill - but they are heavy duty & no worrying about cracking one.

Those bits should work. I just suggested the Dremel because it has other tool bits. Who doesn't love having a bunch of tools, haha
