hello all, what size hole saw do I need for a 1" or a 1 1/2" bulk head. i am going to drill another hole in my tank.

Schedule 40 is a 1 3/4" hole for 1 " bulkhead
2 3/8" hole for a 1 1/2" bulkhead

or

45mm hole for the 1"
60mm hole for the 1 1/2"

I just drilled both sizes this week :)

Schedule 40 is the common bulkhead where the schedule 80 is the better heavy duty bulkhead......

get your bulkheads and THEN get your hole bit

Thats not always possible as a bunch of people buy them all at once and get the hole saw and the bulkheads as a package.. The most important thing to know is if its a sch 40 or sch 80 bulkhead as the size holes CRCV and I showed above vary greatly between the two.

Most sites that sell the bulkheads mention the size holes they need and if a STANDARD bulkhead the sizes are usually pretty close between makers as to the size hole they need. I have used bulkheads from different makers over the last few tanks and sumps and the hole saw size has been the same for each using sch 40 bulkheads

If you already have the bulkheads just measure the bulkhead itself and get the closest size hole saw you can find....

Can you get bulkheads locally from lowes or home depot? I couldnt find any at lowes. Or do you have to get them online?

I don't usually see them at the hardware store, either online or a LFS is probably the way to go.
