What Size Pipe To Use

I'm thinking about drilling my tank to put an overflow box in it. I have found 2 different kits to buy. 1 uses 1" pipe, and comes with 2 bulkheads (they say it flows 1200 gph with both installed, or 600 with 1 installed). The other comes with 1.5" pipe. This 1 you can get with either 1 or 2 bulkheads. Again, they say using 1 bulkhead it flows at 700 gph and with 2 if flows 1500 gph. I have a 44 gallon corner tank. The sump will be small. Probably a 15 gal tall tank. That's the biggest I can fit in there ( I have measured this thing several time, in every direction). How much flow am I going to need. Can I use the 1.5" pipe and have a ball valve to control the flow into the sump? I don't have anything yet, just in the planning stage right now.
Thanks,
Dan

There are some differing opinions on this but with the size of your setup I think more than one 1" will be overkill.

I don't know if this will answer your question, but there is an overflow calculator on the main page. I would link this for ease, but I'm posting from my phone in a Dr office.
