what size pump for kent venturi

sorry I hit enter too soon.

What size pump works best with this venturi valve?? (GPH)

I can't find any information on this.

I'm using a Mag 7 700 GPH which is working out very well. Puts a lot of air in my skimmer even with 4 feet of head pressure.

The most you will get through that venturi is around 300 GPH. I did several tests with mutliple MAG drives (which are of course NOT pressure rated) and a mag 9.5 give around 200 GPH and a MAG 18 only bumps up to a little over 300 GPH. I don't remember if I tried the mag 24, mostly because of the general electrical inefficiencies of the upper MagDrive series.

Just an FYI if you are trying to design a skimmer based on flow through.

sparkss

thats interesting, so you had a 900 gph pump connected to the 3/4 venturi and had a flow rate of 200gph??

That surprises me a little.

When you tested did you have much head pressure? Was that pushing through a skimmer, or is that just the pump connected to the venturi?

The inner diameter of the venturi is NOWHERE near 3/4" at the restriction. Go with something pressure rated, and you'll have much better results. More Bubbles, more flow.

Small Iwaki, or panworld/blueline. Maybe a T1/T2? A smaller Little Giant? Pressure rating is the key here.

that makes sense!

the inner diameter is much smaller,

so I am still wondering what the best pressure rated flow is.

I dont want too put too much pump on this and end up wasting money and energy.

Is it safe to assume from sparkss post that 300gph is all that will flow through even if it is pressure rated (due to the inner diameter)

Thanks!!

zanman, an iwaki MD20 will probably put through more flow than a mag 18. If you want to see which pumps will push through the most, look at the shutoff head for each pump. The higher the pump can pump, in general, the more it will put through.

(ignore the silly pumps like the Iwaki 20rxlt that can do 28 feet, but has max flow at 0 head of 200gph)
