What size tank does glass become a pain?

I am wonder at what size, 200+ etc etc where most prefer to move away from a glass tank and why. Or is it the other way around. I want to start a new tank, but I am unsure if I should stick with glass with such a large project.

a 180 bone dry is like 350 lbs or pretty close to it. i moved and i had to move this tank with like 8 inches of water in it with all the inhabitants and with 250 lbs of sand. me and a friend were the only ones moving it with my gf watching along. i used a cherry picker with removable legs, and furniture dollys. i dont ever want to do that again, however my apartment property is for sale to a developer - wheres my gun -

id guess from 180 - 265 is about the biggest people would want to go glass, then acrylic is much lighter. but i think it comes to preference because ill never own an acrylic, and im planning an upgrade as soon as i find a house. alot of the custom tanks are acrylic too fwiw

I have a 390 glass coming by truck on the 30th that I have to unload, move by pickup to my house and then put in the house. It weighs about 820 lbs according to the manufacturer.

My 450 was around 1300 pounds dry. We took it out of the truck with a forklift and onto two furniture dollies into the back yard where it sat until the addition was done. I then had my builder get about ten of his guys and they moved it onto the stand. The most nerve tacking part for me was when they lifted the tank up off the pallet and we had to move the pallet out of the way.

Anyway, that weight is only a pain once, hopefully.

I am in the process of having a home built and deciding what size tank to get... Because of the insane coraline growth i have Glass is a must have, The tank should be in the 240-300 range.... ill need some help moving that thing lol.

yeah my 220 was unreal. When I showed up to buy it, the guy had in a accident the day before, so my buddy and I had to lift it ourselves. I havent felt pain like that before.

You guys need to learn about Piano Movers. Stand on Piano Movers, slide tank from truck to stand, band all together and you're good to go. That's how we moved my 150 and 210.

BTW, that way you can leave sand and some water in the tank if you have to move it again. I had to move mine from the house to the garage when I went from carpet to tile.

I am not sure where you get it to use, but when we would move tanks, we would use this jack and had a foot peddle that would rise and lower like one of those jacks that raise and lower caskets but it was all metal and it would raise up to 4 1/2 ft i think....hell I used it to raise mine up and the stand is 47 inch high and then we used those suction cups to lift it from the jack to the stand

Piano Movers -- you should be able to rent them. I can here from places that rent things like wet saws...
