What size tank would be acceptable to house a pair of either black and white clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) or a pair of (or false) Percula Clownfish? thanks

thanks for the welcome!
hmm guess i'll have to think about other fish.

would just one be able to fit in a smaller tank or is 20 basically the minimum for any clown

no just the smallish clowns you mentioned you could have a pair in a 20 if the were the ocellaris clowns you want.

BTW the False percula is an ocellaris just like the black and white ocellaris. you could have one of each.

a 40g or bigger is reccomended for any pair of clownfish.

It depends on where you read, and who you talk to.. The accepted minimums on another forum I'm on solely devoted to nano-reefs are 6-7g minimum for a single species, and 10-12g minimum for a pair.

I believe Embryonyx had a pair of percula's spawning in a 12g, so to me that says they can be perfectly happy in a 12 to 15 gallon tank.

However, they'd probably be pretty jazzed to end up in a 250g reef :)

a 10g is fine for a pair. just have to keep up with your water changes and such. if you decide to go with a 10g you should also run a sump as the increased water volume will make it more stable overall. Over on the fish breeding forum i believe many people keep Osc. pairs in 10gs so go for it and you can always upgrade. mine live in a 10g now but they will soon be upgrading to a 210g. its up to you but it can be done.
