hi all aquaholics. I need your help. I want to replace my old skimmer. here I have 2 choices: ASM skimmers or Coralife Super Skimmer. which one is better? or u can recommend me another name that you are favorite. thanks

The super skimmer is considered (next to the seaclone) one of the worst skimmer.

Anything is better than those skimmers. I suggest you start searching as there is a bunch of info on both models.

+1 tp Nickman

Also what is the skimmer that you are replacing? I can only think of the SeaClones as anything worth replacing by a Coralife ss skimmer.

oh. because ASM was sold the most and Supper Skimmer is the cheapest. I dont want to compare to SeaClone because it is not a skimmer. lol
asm skimmer work fine but there are better skimmers out there. Why do you only have those two choices?

Question - What size tank, how heavy is the bio-load, and what's your budget?

Personally - I replaced a Euro Reef RC180 (w/Eheim pumps) with an iTech 200 w/Sicce pump.
There was no comparison - the iTech blew away the ER. And has gotten better since I upgraded to a Tunze pump.

itech is awesome, but expensive, I've heard great things about bubble magus as well and they are priced a little better. I have an ASM G1x and it's ok, but I plan on getting a bubble magus when I get the money to replace it.

I had a Coralife that worked great with a couple modifications.

1. I set it up on bricks high enough in the sump so that I could turn the pump upside down. The very tip of the water intake was just above the water line. Not sure why, but this brought more air into the skimmer. Not through the pump, but the air flow was higher through the air tubing.

2. I replaced the impellar with a Red Sea needle wheel impellar.

Worked great after that.

I'm a big fan of my iTech. For a 64 gal tank the model 100 is more than sufficient. Many people run them on 125's with excellent results. The cost for a 100 with the Tunze pump is about $450. I have no idea how that compares to the other brands listed. Here is a link to their forum:

I used to have a Remora Pro HOB skimmer on my 56 tall. It also was an excellent skimmer. The in sump version is called the Urchin Pro. It comes with a Mag 350 for about $230.
