wHAT STREAM PUMP IS IN THE WAVEBOX?

It is a 6260, a hybrid between a 6100 and 6200 that cannot be used without the 6091 wavebox controller. It will burn out without the controller.

No, not without either changing the propeller to the 6100 type or changing the transformer to the 6200 unit. It does not have a big enough transformer for continuous use.

I mean that still use the same pump, controller and transformer, acting like wavebox but without the box.

No modification can increase the power at this time, in the future it may be possible a 6300 would make for a stronger wavebox but that has not been tested and it is possible it would just fill the tank with air bubbles from running the box dry.

Basically, I know it would work on small tanks to make a bigger wave, but on long tanks with longer intervals the flow would empty the box and air bubble would enter the tank.

One of the original demos of the wavebox showed a huge double wave in tank. The frequency was so big that the fish would move eaily 6" as they swam around the tank as the waves crested. I heard that the waveboxes that are available now were tuned down to get a more gentle wave. Is this true and if so what motor was being used on them originally?

The tank was specially designed to give this effect, it was long and narrow and shallow. The only difference is it had the bigger 6200 transformer but this is of no advantage except on a very long tank where the pump could actually ramp up to use that wattage. On a 4-6ft tank the pump never goes past 55w of consumption so the 60W transformer is more than adequate. On a bigger tank it may momentarily peak at 65W and the 80W transformer gets it the power faster and more efficiently but even then, the difference is about 1/4" in height at most.

You would just switch the transformers but from experience it is a lot of money for such a nominal gain the 6200 transformer is over $100 and at best you may gain a 1/4" extra wave height but 1/16- 1/8" is more likely.

The wavebox flow rate is more complicated to calculate, the pump has the same potential output as a 6200 but if you use it like a 6200 the pump will be destroyed, when used in a wavebox and the proper wave is tuned, the flow is much more.

wow so this way the wavebox enchances the pumps ability? i am enjoying my new wavebox, just got it a few days ago. Its on a 6ft x 18 x 28tall tank. It really moves the water.

The wave it creates has a greater flow than the pump itself. The flow varies with tank size and wave height but on a 180 it is about 14000 gph
