I just set up a small system (36x18x18) for my 4yo daughter. She wants SPS and clams (and I'm sure she'll hijack a leather or LPS from my big system too). I currently have a HQI 250W 14k Phoenix MH and my fixture is set-up for 4 T5HO's as well. What T5's would work well with this system for good growth and color. I'm not fond of the yellow look.
I know the MH's have a pretty high output for such a shallow tank. The feet on my fixture only place the fixture 3" above the tank rim. I used the same fixture on one of my frag tanks (with 4 actinic T5's), but I had it suspended 14" or so above the tank and used several screens as well. If I use the fixture with the feet, I'm worried that I'll burn everything up in the tank, so I'm contemplating building a hood that is 18" high or so.
What are your thoughts?
