I have been using a Salifert kit with good results. I have used RedSea in the past and APi.

When I buy now its for ease of use and accuracy of the test. Salifert meets that for me, but I'm always looking for something better.

Red Sea. I use Hannah for phosphates and API for nitrates only due to my nitrates being embarrassingly high. And since Red Sea's nitrate test is for ultra low amounts, I need another means to check.

And for me, i have the Kh test down to where I can run the entire test in under a minute. Takes me longer to do an API with all the shaking then the Red Sea.

Red sea and hanna. The red sea is very easy to use and has a clear color change to me.

Red Sea for quite some time, but I'll probably pick up a Hanna soon for convenience and comparison.

Hannah daily, LaMotte with every new bottle of Hannah reagent and then once a week to double check the Hannah.

I don't use my hanna as often as my red sea because it isn't as convenient FYI.

Switched over to LaMotte after years of other brands. Alk kit has a start point end point and you went to far . Going to purchase the nitrate kit next. Nanook what other LaMotte kits are you using .

I guess convenient is a poor choice of words.

I suffer from some color blindness and so I struggle at times with titration based tests. I feel like the Red Sea kit is better than most for me, and my wife has confirmed that I interpret the color shift correctly. However, if I'm testing when my frag tank is only running the blue spectrum, I really question myself and either have perform the test twice or head to another room to read it.

I use Lamotte for alkalinity and low range nitrate, nice to be able to discern nitrate from 0 to 40 very accurately. I have a Lamotte ph test kit but rarely use it. Salifert for calcium and magnesium. Hanna meter for phosphate.

I use red sea for alk and calcium. The kits use glass vials instead of plastic. Easier to clean and less likely to hold onto and residue. They are quick to test and the kits come with laminated cards for easy quick reference. I use salifert for magnesium because the test is easier and quicker but I hate the plastic vial and I can not stand the folded paper instruction sheet to find the results.

Hanna for Alk and Phosphate. Salifert for Mg, Ca and Nitrate. I test twice a week, Alk, Ca and Mg in the beginning of the week and I add Phosphate and Nitrate to the test later in the week. I also test the wc water and make adjustments if I have to.

I use the Hanna Checker, which provides very repeatable results. If you find yours is all over the place, make sure you wipe finger prints off the cuvette (especially after eating fried chicken) and always place it in the checker in the sane orientation. I find it's really easy to put the "10ml" marking at the 6:00 position every time. If you rotate the cuvette even 90 degrees, the checker is sensitive enough that you'll get a different reading simply from imperfections in the glass.
