What the heck is that?

My buddy bought this fish; never saw anything like it. Ugliest thing you ever saw and reminds me of some kind of prehistoric fish. He has burrowed under the rock and keeps a constant watch on what's going on around his hole. Any idea what it is?

Maybe it's a jawfish of some sort? Does it lay on the sand, or hover above its burrow?

It has a burrow. At the time this picture was taken he had been flushed out of the burrow he was in and moved to the other side of the tank. Created another burrow shortly there after.

It's a dusky jawfish...and yes they are ugly, but neat.

I had one years ago and ended up giving it to a friend. It lived for quite awhile.

Cool - thanks! I'll let my buddy know. I used to hate looking at it; but, must admit - he grew on me. Actually kinda cool - reminds me of Oscar on Seasame Street.
