tank is cloudy. all corals are fully open. i have never seen my sps open as far.

all fish are fine.

nitrates - less than 5
ammounia - less than 5

the only thing i did different is i added like 20 ml of sugar last night to see if i could get bett pe.


any ideas?


o yea the skimmer is NOT going crazy.

i have to go to school so i did everything in a hurry.

The sugar created a bacterial bloom from the added carbon source. Just wait it out. It may be fine by the time you get home from school or it may take a couple days. That is most likely the cause of the ammonia spike.

Try adding vinegar and oil with a touch of oregano next time....oh, and bring to a simmer for 30 minutes.

Trottie, my tank did the same thing yesterday after increasing my vodka dosing from 10 ml/day to 12 ml/day over the course of a few days.

The good news is, I am in my third week of vodka dosing and the Cotton Candy algae is finally gone. Now, the Bryopsis and Valonia are another story, but my tank is finally (after months) starting to look decent again and not like an algea farm.

Or you could add some molassis and grapefruit juice, maybe a little protein powder, let it sit in the sun to ferment and call it MW's coral.......... and sell it at LFS's for 20 bucks a little bottle. Not that MW stands for anything I know of.
