What to do with Favia

So I have this decent sized rock, 6x4 I'd say, that a frag of favia has now completely covered. It's sitting in my sand not touching anything else. There is literally no more rock for it to cover. So what should I do? Frag it up, move it touching another rock so it can continue to grow? I like the size it is, as it seemed to grow fast and don't want it taking over a whole side of my tank. Suggestions?

That's a nice specimen. It looks like a Christmas favia. You could place the colony on a piece of cured shelf (flat) rock and keep it on the bottom. You might scoop out a depression roughly the size of the colony and put in that. It should expand on to it in the right circumstances.

Yeah I did kinda that. I placed some smaller rubble around it in hopes it will grow into that and I can frag those. Thanks!

If your intention is to have it grow & expand quickly for fraging the new growth, it will expand fastest if existing tissue is put as close as possible to a large piece of rock. This is how they expand in nature. Thin shelf rock is also easy to frag.

If existing polyp tissue isn't touching the new rock directly, it can't grow.
