What to do with my old Nova Extreme Pro 6x48in?

Hello my fellow Chicago reefers,

I am returning to the hobby after a 2 year hiatus. Most of my equipment is being reused but I will be upgrading to LED. I have a Nova Extreme Pro 6x48in that has been running for 6 years and in storage for another 2. It's in decent shape with upgraded computer fans but not sure what to do with it.

Option 1: Cannibalize it and maybe use the parts for a future ATS or canopy retrofit?
Option 2: Clean it up and donate it to local newbie. (I'd have to purchase 1 bulb to go with it for functionality test)

While free is always good, I'd hate to stress out a new reefer by having the ballast go out after spending $100 on new bulbs. Any suggestions?

If you're handy and willing to take on a project, that fixture would ideal for adding led pucks. Could probably remove two of the t5s and add two led pucks. I'm thinking it could be done for around 400.00

Keep it for spare.

Haha, I don't have the space to hoard equipment like every reefer wants too! I'm trying to make room for QT tanks and equipment. Apartment living

I could but I'm not a fan of how the fixture looks, and I'm clueless when it comes to building a controller. Once I'm able to get my dream 8ft 300gal, I want to go DIY on a LED/T5 canopy. That's what I would use these parts for if I held onto it that long. Saves me $50 in the future.

I really think a new reefer would get more use out of it, just don't want to be pawning off garbage.

You've been upfront about what you have to offer. Anyone taking you up on your (rather generous IMO) offer should understand what the project entails.
I think you'd have to be nuts to buy new bulbs for a fixture that you are offering to give away.

Thanks, I'd have to agree with you! It was fully functional going into storage. No need for me show it's operational when giving it away.
