I've read about these mantis shrimp and I do not want them in my tank. I know that I should quarentine live rock that I buy to make sure there's no mantis shrimp hiding. If I do find a shrimp and manage to get him out of my rock, what do I do with it? I dont want to just kill it, that's mean, so what do I do?! Thanks.

If you find one and want it out of your tank and cannot find another place to keep it alive - then you have no choice. I hear putting them in a plastic bag and then your freezer is one painless way - but try hard to find a place for them, maybe your LFS?

You can always post that you have a Mantis shrimp to give away. I am sure someone here would take it.

You catch him, put him in another little container, post on this forum that you have one and wait for someone to offer to reimburse you your shpping costs to send him to them.

Easy as that.

Mantis lives happy, Mantis new owner lives happy and you live happy and Mantis free! :-)

Yep. There are always plenty of takers here.

Or if you want a fun, low maintenance tank, set the mantis up in a 2.5g or 5.5g tank ... it requires almost no money or effort, and that way you get to watch all kinds of fun shenanigans.

but they get bigger

but they get bigger

setting up a 5 gallon tank isnt gonna cut it for a Mantis, they will outgrow that in no time at all, esp if you let them eat like they want too!
