okay I caught several mantis shrimp from some rock I got today. one is 2 1/2" long. can they go in a sump? how about a refugium? too dangerous? will I lose a finger or is all that bull?
Small hitchhikers can give you a good "whack" on your finger so it's best to keep your distance or use a scoop or tongs. According to Dr. Roy most species that are found in rock are pretty small smashers and are a threat to clean up crew and smaller fish. They're probably not large enough to physically damage your sump but they will brawl with each other. It also depends if you don't mind them being on top of the food chain in the sump. We keep a Peacock and it's the most interesting marine pet that I've had IMO.
Any possibility of pics? I'm sure there are people willing to take them off of your hands, pay for packing and shipping, and maybe even compensate a little.
