What to put acrylic sump on?

I was going to put it on the wood base, but have had foam or eggcrate suggested. What are the pros and cons of each method?

the wood base would be the best. acrylic needs sturdy support to keep it from bowing. foam will let it bow, and the eggcrate....well i would never do that because if it were to break apart then you have another issue at hand.

I always put water holding, acrylic vessels on 1" thick foam board. The foam I have right now is blue. It also can be pink. I believe it molds itself to make up any diferences between the wood and acrylic. IME

Is this the general opinion, that I should put it on the wood?

you can use a primer like kilz to seal the wood off from moisture.

no problem imo. if you like, get some 1x2's and frame the base. leave some air holes for circulation if you would feel more comfortable.
