What to stock in my 120 gallon

Ok so my tank is about to have rock and water. I will cycling it for the next month or so. I am hoping to have the tank ready for fish and coral by mid next month. I have been to the fish store countless times and still have not seen anything Iwant to put in it. Mainly because I cannot figure who works with each other. I also plan on stock with lots of coral but I need some fishes to swim around and keep my cats happy. the fish I want are too big for a 120 gallon. I plan on doing some sand sifting gobies, watchman gobies, not sure what type of clown fish if any. I want something to fill up the rest of the space. My tank is 24" high and I only anticipate 12-13 of rick height. any ideas are welcome, except endangered, aggressive and super pricey.

A group of scissortail or zebra dartfish will occupy the upper regions. Fairy and flasher wrasses are active and colorful and come in a wide range of prices. Purple tilefish, yellow or purple tang, a Gwnicanthus angel.

Are peppermint shrimp safe from bangaii cardinal fish?

one spot foxface. great fish that gets along with others. easy to care for and will help keep algae in check. get just one Bangaii or a bonded pair unless you want some fighting. mine never bothers my cuc or shrimp. lots of wrasses to choose from. I have a Lamarck's angel in my 120. totally reef safe. so far my Coral Beauty has not touched any coral.

I would add a purple tang. Size is marginal for an adult, but those tiny 2" ones that are everywhere would be a good fit IMO.

I like your guys ideas! what about a Jaw fish? I like the fish that reproduce. Jaw fish just look cool with a mouthful of eggs.

Jawfish would be fine.. In that tank I would not recommend putting any gobies or blennies in there that occupy the bottom 3rd of the tank, as it came have a possibility of some aggression between the two. I do not recommend no Purple Tang in that tank, small or not. If you really want a Tang, check out the stickies in the top of this forum that gives you the min tank size and length.

I really like the Ctenochaetus tangs - the two spot is my favorite. I also plan on a one spot foxface & a Lamarck or Bellus angel in my 120.

One of My favorites is the pajama Cardinal. They are unique, can get multiple, and they are always out and about. They don't hide much. They are also fairly hardy.

That's a good question. IMO there is no easy way to answer although some will argue (it's not a simple question of how many as not all fish are created equal). My feeling is that it all depends on a number of factors like how good your filtration system is and how often you are willing to do water maintenance. More fish, more feelings, more poop, more need to clean - it's a simple equation.
If you don't maintain your water quality then you will start to create issue after issue. Start off with a few that you really want and then begin to add slowly (always QT) until you get what you want.
p.s. Do research on fish compatibility (live aquaria has a good chart) and have a plan on what you want to stock.

got her at a little over an inch. now over three. eats everything. if I had a larger tank I would of had a pair.
