What is the gas in the bubbles that form in Red Slime algae (bacteria)? If the slime was really algae I know it would be oxygen gas but with it being a bacteria I wonder if it is carbon dioxide.
Russ, cyanobacteria are photosynthetic. In endosymbiotic theory, based upon cytological and sequencing analysis, they actually became the chloroplasts of plants and alga. The way they produce energy is exactly identical to algae (oxygenic photosynthesis).
