What type of macro should I use

I'm getting ready to set up my new fuge and I wasn't sure of the best macro algae to use in it. I used calupera In my old sump, but i hear some bad things about it.....

Can I get some opinions on certain types of macro algaes and why I should use them over something else

I've never heard of anything bad about caulerpa. You won't miss with chaeto, though, and it's easy to harvest. It grows easy with a simple floodlight, so it's cheap to use and quite effective.

I love chaeto best. Easy to harvest. Doesn't go sexual. Doesn't grow on rocks, just a free floating mass. And with enough flow, doesn't collect detritus.

Don't know if i agree about it not collecting detritus-----If it is in a sump not many people have lots of flow---but with lots of flow like you said you should not have problems.

Like the name sounds Calerpa Polifera (not sure on the spelling)
grows real fast in my ref.----that my vote----but as it goes with beer the more the merrier. I have three types growing. I would stay away from grape calerpa for its willingness to go sexual/heard lots of stories how it releases phos.

I'm anti Caulerpa simply because it can invade the main display and be quite difficult to remove. All the species can and do go sexual from time to time. And the holdfasts catch detritus much more than chaeto; it is partially what they're designed to do (along with holding it to the rock, of course)

i've had Calerpa in my hang on refuge for over a year w/o problems getting in my main tank (that i'm aware of since my tang would eat it) So if you got a tang probally no need to worry.

No harsh feelings of discust about chaeto in a fuge, that is one of the three type in my hang on. But the Calerpa Polifera in my fuge grow the fastest.(in my mind exports the most nutrients)
