What type of sand size in the substrate?

I am going for a 1 to 2 inch layer of sand for the substrate. What size and type of sand would you suggest? I read that 2-5 mm might be easier to keep up with or that the sugar size is better. I planned on getting a cucmber and or a sand sifting goby to help keep it clean.

get sugar size you won't regret it. i had crushed coral and hated it. it's a nitrate trap.
plus it's easier for the goby to sift. good luck
