What type of silicone

I have sealed many tanks and built several from scratch with no problems, or maybe I am very lucky. I really want to re seal my 125 with black but don't know what silicone to use.

Also need advice for re sealing the plastic overflow boxes the old ones are out and cleaned up the best I can but I'm a little apprehensive. I have always used glass for the overflow boxes.

If you live near Wesley Chapel and want to help out :bounce1:that would be cool I'm new to the area and don't know anyone here.

cheers

black GE silicone II, the one with out the mold and mildew resistant stuff.

for the acrylic overflow boxes use weldon adhesive.

Hi,

When you say "re-seal the plastic overflow boxes", what exactly do you mean? Are they the type that are in the tank, used with drilled holes/bulkheads, usually black plastic, and are the height of the tank (minus teeth for surface skimming)? Or do you mean the type that are half in/half out of the tank, have a joining U-tube, and are made of acrylic/plexiglass?

For the first type I listed, use the silicone.

For the second type, use Weld-On.

If the second type, let me know. I have some Weld-on and live in your area.

It is GE type I, I use it all the time.

that stuff is garbage compared to RTV 103 or 108. Strength properties of that home depot stuff is miniscule compared to RTV 103 (black) or 108 (clear).

I used to use the GE type 1 back in the day, but i think it leeched phosphates into my water for a long time. the RTV's are of the proper strength to assemble a tank. I've used it on my external and internal overflow boxes and I use it on my baffles. Refuse to use the GE stuff anymore.

What makes you think it leaked phosphates into your tank? I have never had a problem using it. But I do agree the RTV 103 would be better for attaching a plastic overflow box to the glass. I mainly use it to reseal tanks or build my sumps, not plastic to glass because silicone doesn't adhere to plastic very well without making globs of it all over and looking ugly.

It's the ones inside the tank. The old one had silicone sealing it but i have never resealed a plastic overflow before.
