The tank is a 60 gallon Cube, with 150w Halide on M81 ballast with a DIY actinic Led strip. The filter is a 2 cube a day algae scrubber, occasional filter sock, and a Coralife Super Skimmer 65. I throw a bag of carbon in the sump and replace it every three months. The circulation is done with a Rw-8 and an old Koralia pump that doesn't move much water anymore.
The tank is a mixed reef with SPS, LPS, and anemones. The calcium and KH is replenished through Kalk top off. It is pretty heavily stocked with 2 butterflies(Copperband and Heniochus Diphretes), a clown, a melanurus wrasse, a pseudochromis, and a cleaner shrimp.
Everything in the tank is doing well. I fell off the water change wagon for a while. I got some nasty algae that looks like dust bunnies on the rocks. I think it is nutrient depraved green hair. I went 3 months without a water change. This is all that developed from that. I changed 75 % over the course of a week and now doing 7 % water changes every week.
I tested my water before I did the changes and my params were:
1.026
PH -8.2
No2-0
No3-0
Po4-0
Calcium-480
Kh-7
Mag-1300
I couldn't believe it so I had the LFS test as well to confirm. Needless to say params stayed where they should with just kh and mag dropping.
I want to invest some money back into the tank and here are my thoughts: (Pick one)
1.) New Skimmer. Mine is old and inadequate at best but it does pull some junk out.
2.) Flow. I would like to get a gyre to move the water better. I do get some debris collected on the sandbed
3.) Reactors. I would get duel reactors and run carbon and bio pellets or gfo. (I think a better skimmer would be needed first)
4.) Clean up crew. I have essentially no clean up crew. I could add a robust clean up crew.
5.) Auto Water Changer. I would get a stenner dual head peristaltic pump and have it change a gallon a day.
