What's at IMAC?

I've got the general idea of what IMAC is about, but was wondering if there are people there that are selling corals and/or livestock and I was curious if it's cheaper than going to the LFS?

Just about all those exhibitors will be selling products..whether it's drygood or livestock.

And yes, everything I've ever bought there has been far cheaper than the LFS. Consider that there are some great on-line vendors there that you now do not have to pay for shipping for to buy something.

Sounds like i will be blowing some serious $ on Saturday. :D

The other idea is to wait until Sunday afternoon when they really start slashing prices. They really don't want to pack the livestock up and transport it home so it starts to get interesting on Sunday. You do run the risk of not getting something you want because someone buys it before you, but last year, I picked up a clam that started out at $85 and got him for $50. :D

Is there a lot of items raffled off? What i'm trying to get at, is, if I were to buy a ticket for the raffle, would I have a pretty good chance of winning something? I was looking at the items on the imac website and it didn't look like they had all that much...

Check the other IMAC thread on here for the e-mail that will get you in free (no name tag, banquet, programor raffle, but you get in to shop and hear the speakers)

jd,

Can you point us in the direction of that other thread? I cannot get the search engine to work.

Scroll down in this forum....It's entitled "imac". :D

I did even better on clams last year, but hear this year it could be thin. Some worldwide shortage? Nobody seems to have clams in any desireable supply. We'll see.

Waiting late runs the risk of "losing out" when Dirk or someone else buys up the entire display of one of the vendors, which will happen.

Is the pricing there any better than it would be to purchase online? Minus shipping of course... Is there a ton of livestock and drygoods for sale or is it more of one than the other?

Hard to tell right now who will be selling what....Last year, I would say there were 5 or 6 significant livestock vendors with muliple large tank displays (Dirk, Sharky's, Phisybiz, Clamsdirect...). This year, I see more names (Rod's Reef, Splash of Life, Ocean's Floor, Sharky's, Phishy, Saltycritter, Dirk)...My expectation is that there will be a lot of livestock there. The 2 major drygoods folks are Dirk and Premium Aquatics. Actually, if you have a specific order from Premium for drygoods, you can order it ahead of time and ask them to bring it there.

Premium usually has a "IMAC Specials" sheet of specific items they have further discounted just for IMAC.

IME, the prices are lower at the show than in any store for both drygoods and livestock.

Dirk's reef. No online presence that I know of.

Living Sea was there last year, oddly with some good stuff and decent prices (that's where I got my clam!) Lots of seahorse stuff if you are into that. Fragexchange there too. Lots and lots of frags to be had, at great prices or even free.

And don't forget the huge raffle (but you have to be registered to get tickets).

I believe Dirk is from MN....owns a store up there....about one of the nicest guys I've met in the trade in a long time.

its a must stop shop!!!

Just when I'm thinking, "must stop shopping!"

BTW Doug, been meaning to call. Too much to do at IMAC, may not be able to get to your place. But the following Sat might be a good morning for me to get you the urchin and to snoop around your digs. We'll talk at IMAC...
