What's going on with my brain?

I have had this brain for almost 7 years with no problems, in the last few months it looks like it is budding or something. Why are the polyps drooping like that? Is it propagating itself?

I will start by saying Ive never seen this, but based on some other corals propgations, Ive seen/read about, I would be thinking posptively by saying, you are about to have two new polyps to raise to be big like daddy :D

It looks terribly healthy, and if youve had it for that long in good water quality, I cant see how it would be reacting bad at this point.

Out of curiosity, what lighting do you run? Im planning my 180, and want to be able to keep some brains. I had good luck on my last tank with open brains, but never had the joy of keeping one like yours.

H20LUVSME - I have two 150 watt 10K Ushios, one 96 watt PC actinic, one 96 watt PC 10k, one 28 watt T5 actinic, one 28 watt T5 10k, and one 18 watt PC actinic. There are also 5 very bright blue moon lights.

Last month another droop detached, but unfortunately it blew away while I was at work and I never found it. I was hoping they were little babies.

Dang fishysteve, you just answered my same question yesterday!

I would check the coral propogation forum. Maybe you can remove them the rest of the way manually so you can control where they go once detached. Id be nervous to loose these two also.

It must be really liking your water conditions.

It is asexual reproduction. IF you want cut it with a razor blade and put it somewhere where you wont lose it. I see that happening all the time. It's normal with corals. Congrats. Your doing something right!

That is a big definite on the coral is propagating itself. Some species of Goniopora do the same thing. My G. pendulus has dropped several babies now in the exact same manner.

Congrats!

You have the same problem that most of us have, we have an addiction to salt water and the toxins that....

Oh wait, the brain in your tank. It is reproducing.
