What's going on with this

This mushroom came out of nowhere about a year ago and got huge in comparison to all my other ones. My question is what type might it be and why wont it spread? Its about 5" in the pic but gets every bit of 6" at its fullest. Other mushrooms that are still and were in the tank when this came about were just the red ones and watermelons. Thanks for any info.

See both of them this time LOL.
Looks like a hairy mushroom. As you've noticed, they get really large! No idea what it takes to get them to spread.

If you want it to spread just talk about how much you don't want it to take over your tank, in about a week it should be everywhere, works with brown palys :D

Have you tried cutting the foot a bit? I posted up a thread on fragging them that way in this forum a few months back, been doing it every since and it works great!

Heh that's a small one. I've had them over a foot across. It's called rhodactis. Whet it's bored or wants a change it will tear itself into 3-5 pieces and heal up into new discs. These things are super tough you can cut them across the mouth and they will either heal back up or split into new individuals.
