Correct Cyano, but it actually IS a BIG deal. It will come to the surface and cover your sand. Not much you can do about it one of two things IMO Vacuum it weekly off of the surface and wait out it's cycle usually about a month or once it gets bad use Chemclean. Personally I just wait it out usually once it's finished on it's own it doesn't come back.

sorry just bored at work. i dont like it either. i take a butter knife and run it along the glass and it goes away. but will come back

kulman , cyano can be a problem. yes but having a little against the glass under the sand isnt a big deal i have it in my tank under the sandbed for 9 months now and it never spreads

see i have some under the sand. that tank was originally set up in jan. then 2 months later i upgraded to another tank. moved the stuff over. so this tank is 5 months old i have sps growing. most people will tell you to wait 6 months. dont get nervous with ever little algae or cyano in your tank. feed your tank, feed it.:) sounds better with a sottish accent

Anthony, I did similar to what you did but mine was two weekends ago and my other tank had gone through the cyano and was gone on it's own before I switched everything. I added 30lbs of sand at this point nothing else. Getting some surface algae on the sand but that's it. CUC is keeping up with everything. Going to have to hookup the elevator to get the blue legged hermits out of the sump LOL One got migrated up today.

Oh and I FEED my tank, Feed it well.

I have added several more snails over the past week and I haven't even had to clean the glass it's nice!! Also I wish someone would have told me how awesome the Mexican snails are! He does 10 times the work as the rest.

can i ask why you have the hang on the back filter. you do know you need to clean those like once a week or they might become nitrate factory
