I like the durso for quietness but since I converted both my overflows to dual 1" drains I can't fit 1.5" dursos and 1" dursos just did not flow enough for me. Then I tried the gurgle buster style but could never get it to stay dialed in. Yes I could get the flow but then it would be noisy. Now I actually have loc-line 1/2" y's with flair nozzle's attached in each standpipe and no noise what so ever yet tones of flow.

nobody mentioned bubble algae? pineapple sponges, sand, detritus, and lots of mysis

That sounds like mine. With a peppermint shrimp too --- Aiptasia.

I ask cause I still have bio balls in mine and I want to get rid of them. The only reason they are in there in the first place is to deaden the sound of the water. Anybody else have this problem or have any solutions

I did that too with my last tank. BUT....on my new tank, I installed a Hofler Gurglebuster (think I spelled it correctly) which is detailed somewhere on Reef Central. It is hands down the most effective, minimal space taking, efficient overflow silencer I have used. My 85g is dead silent even standing 1 foot away.

I looked at Durso, but it took up too much room in my overflow.
