What's my Maxima doing?!

My ~2" gold maxima clam has recently been doing this:
<img src="http://www.goodmorningheartache.com/tank/goldclam.jpg">
it started a month ago, and it was only the first 'curl' in the mantle. it has now progressed to three or so mantle flaps.

water params all check out. ca ~450 Alk~12dkh no nitrates... ph 8.2

my stock consists of:
1 blue green chromis
1 yellow tang
1 sixline wrasse
2 pajama cardinals
2 blue damsels
1 tomato clown
1 cleaner shrimp
3 peppermint shrimp
3 serpent stars
turbo snails
hermit crabs

corals/clams
s elegans
cauliflower colt
frogspawn
small patch of zoos
shrooms
few diff gorgonians
gsp
3 1/2" derasa clam
florida rics

the maxima is ~18" under a 250w DE 10k. it is up on the rocks, not the sand.

i've looked for parasites, but dont see any. even cut the threads and looked underneath, as i've read pyramid snails like the byssal gland..

the only thing is: my colt would occasionally inflate to it's fullest and would brush up against the clam in the exact region where it is retracting. i quickly moved the clam when i saw the ruffling of the mantle. could this be from the colt stinging it? it's been 3 weeks or so since i moved it... and it's retracting more 'curls' of it's mantle than before.

help!

I have no good news. Sorry.
Some people call it "pinching" I have lost a couple of clams from it. Still don't know etiology. I noticed that maxima is susceptible to that more than crocea, IME. I wish I have the solution. Good luck.

Looks like Pinching, you need to give it a freshwater dip for about 20 minutes and because it's less than 3" it needs bowl feedings 3 - 4 times a week with Phytoplankton.

For more info on care of clams check the forums at http://www.clamsdirect.com/

Let us know how it goes in the coming days and weeks... :)
