Whats the best heater for a 10g? I saw a heater @ wally world tonight and it was for a 2-15g but it said it was preset and I'm really
not sure if i want to even chance it. what are everyone's opinion??

thanks in advance.

It is, but I had a couple lying around so I used one. It does a great job of holding my tank between 78*-80*. The heater also fit very nicely in the return chamber of my Remora.

i'm running a little bit of an experiment, i only have 2 t-6 normal out put lights, canister filter w/only carbon, 1 powerhead and doing water changes once a week. do you think the 150w will fit?

The Wally world heaters have a reputation for failing, I wouldn't use one.

I have Visitherm in two tanks because they're small but I don't like them because they're hard to adjust.

In the third tank (10 gallons + 5 gallons sump) I have a Won 350 w titanium heater just because I had it laying around. It's overkill but works fine and is easy to set.

With any heater calibrate it in a bucket before using it in your tank. Learned that in my freshwater days when I woke up to fish soup  .

the reason why i am asking this question is b/c i have a 2 visitherms and both will not shut off. If you look really close on them it almost looks like some water has gotten into them and the thermostates aren't regulating the temp. I would love to have a titanium heater but i have to sweet talk the wife in letting me get more (better ) equipment.

Submersible heaters are more expensive, but much more convenient - you don't have to worry about water, coming inside. 2 x 50W heaters for reliability.

I have these only for less than year (after Visi-Therms, that are still working in other tanks), like them:
- All-Glass Submersible Heater 50 W (Hydor made) - the smallest,
- Visi-Therm Stealth - (in a big tank) they are not a glass, plastic onto aluminum - for mechanical durability, both have auto shut-off.

At first bought Eheim Jager heaters, as I was told they are the best, but mine has a line "Do not immerse below this line", and not a word about auto shut-off. Prefer the two above.

I have one of the Wal*Mart 50 watt heaters in my Biocube (2-15 gallons). I actually really like it. It's tiny, and my temp is always at exactly 78 degrees. I normally only buy the best equipment, but when I did my online order for supplies for this tank, they were out of the 50 watt Stealth heaters, and I didn't want to have to wait and pay another shipping fee. So, I picked this one up, I figured I would up-grade to the Stealth eventually and use this one for water changes. But, for now it's a keeper.

I just went and bought a hagen tronic 50w heater. so far so good. I didn't have a chance to order one b/c my freind was tearing down his tank and and he was giveing me what little stuff he had in live stock so i had now choice. I have decided that i will buy me 2 titanium stealth heaters for my tanks.

I run a hagen tronic on my tank. The tronic does an awesome job of keeping a stable temp, I was running a visi-therm and the temp tended to flucuate between 1-2 degrees constantly. the Tronic has been in for about 4 months and it keeps the temp constant to within a few 1/10's of a degree; very happy with it.
The only downfall is that the heater body gets really hot, so I wouldnt recommend it unless you have a sump or a heater guard.

I have a Rena Cal - Top Light. I know the Jager and won's are good, but the Rena Cal has nice thick glass, is short, and has nicely visible lights. Works for me and available at petsmart.

Tronics are the best! But, if you're like me, and on a budget, Visi-Therms Stealths really aren't that bad. They're really my favorite between the cost and durability.

I have to throw in a vote for the Hydor heaters. They are very well made with thick glass and tight thermostats. I have had several and all have been outstanding.

I do have to give stealth heaters credit for being less distracting, though.
