Whats the best power panel design you've seen?

Anyone have any pictures of some of the better power panel designs you've seen for under the stand? Something to took into consideration, GFIs, light timers, as well as a switch or two for turning particular things on and off without having to shut down the entire system???

The one made by electric130:

I love E130s panel switches!

I built this for a friend. Its not under the stand but could be. I would have used an FRP panel and liquid tite stuff if it was.
The circuits it feeds that are located under the stand use plastic boxes, liquid tite, and drip proof "while in use" covers.
Obviously you dont need to go to this extreme, but many of us like the automation and the tinkering:D

Oh like in the MCC of our reduced voltage start 100hp fans? The bundle is baloney thick, ALL red, and zip tied every half inch

*SHUDDER!!!!*:eek2:

Okay...so some of these are WAY more than I am thinking I'll need for my pittly little 55 gallon tank. Though I can certainly see the appeal of tinkering with stuff like this. How about a few examples of some simpler outlets and power strip "boxes" that incorporate and are laid out for the bulky light timers??

Hey, that looks like the back side of Pam's (budgetyourself) tank. Her sump/fuge is the size of my main display! I'd bet there's no room under her stand for that panel :D

Something a bit simpler

Something a bit simpler

It's not the best I've ever seen but it's the only one I have access to:)

It's hinged on the bottom for access each outlet is switched and I can easily add timers if needed.

Click on my red house for the build thread. More information on page two (I think) as well as a wiring diagram.

Hi all,

For those who aren't comfortable with electical work or who want a more simple solution, this works pretty well for about $30. They are always available on Ebay, but I got mine at my local Guitar Center store.

It is made for DJ's to use on rack mount systems. Each switch on the front has a receptical on the back. It has a 15A capacity. The only minor downside is that the recepticals are just a bit too close to plug in multiple timers.

I started to build my own fancy electrical panel, but this was just too cheap and easy and works quite well.

Adam:

I'm beginning to agree with you about them just being easier, but tinkering is more fun! About how deep are those things? I'm trying to figure out how to flush-mount them into a stand.

Thanks!

I thought about doing something like this, but when i am walking down the electrical isle in lowes/homedepot, i may as well be staring into the human brain. I have no idea what to buy or where to even begin. Also, something tells me 220V from a main breaker would not feel very good.

I search about once a week for surpluss ON-OFF-ON process control switches like elec130 used. Can't ever seem to find enough matching units to finish my panel. I instead may be to resort to smaller ON-OFF-ON toggles (I need about 20).

H20... is the bundle of red wires marked at both ends? Nothing like a wire bus with no labels.

BTW I don't use ZIP ties anymore.... velcro straps are the way to go!

CaptainDave,

The unit is 19" x 2" x 5", but you realistically need about 7" for the wires to clear.
