Whats the difference.

So lately I went to my LFS, I was looking around in the uesd stuff for a cheap 10 gal hood. I was talking to one of the clercks there and he told me that for one of his bigger reef aquariums he doesn't use a CA reactor but he just uses Ca supplemmets

I really don't know what the difference I just wanted some feedback.

Supplements are added manually to the tank. A calk reactor is a mechanical device that does the same. And I don't know if that statement I just made is entirely accurate. But it's close.

I will be getting a 90 AGA on Monday and I plan to dose Calcium and Alkalinity manually just because I don't think I will have room for a reactor. I think manually me be less expensive. At least short term.

More knowledgeable fellows will probably have more information.

Regards,

Pat

I agree with Pat. Tank size isn't the only factor on whether or not to run a Ca reactor. But also what corals do you have and what is the tanks Ca uptake. Measure your Ca and Alk need first, then decide how you want to supply it. Chances are, regular water changes will suffice.

So you would probably need a Ca Reactor for a really big reef tank, and you could uses supplements for a smaller reef.
