Whats the difference in the Super Reef Octopus XP2000i, and the Super Reef Octopus 2000.

I am looking at 2 different websites and there is over a $100 difference.

I dont own either one. But it seems most folks on RC have the SRO 2000 and are happy with it.

The price difference is largely due to the cost of acrylic cones and the "New" factor. I would save the money and go with the SRO 2000. I prefer that design and it's cheaper.

Jeremy from Coral Vue recommended the XP for me. For my tank size, I fall kind of between the 1000 and 2000 models. He said with lighter bioloads, the cone will be more efficient at pulling skimmate than the hybrid design. Not sure how that works, but I took his word for it. Its not quite setup yet, but close. FWIW, my system is about 120ish total gallons, and I like colored sticks :)

I figure If I'm already going to spend the money, I might as well spend an extra $100 and get the newest stuff...

The cone has less volume so this makes sense, skip being a conehead and get the regular one, you are paying more for a lesser skimmer. The only benefit to the cone is for the mfg, they can charge more for it.

I ordered the SRO 2000. plus I got an additional 14% off at speciality reef!!! Glad it took me all day to make up my mind!!! Saved quite a bit of money!
