whats this on my polyp colony??/help

I just received this from foster & smith and didnt know what it was or if its safe for my tank...this is a super colored polyp colony...the bags came in very dirty water I guessing this is normal but what is on them????

apparently, sponges hate being out of water ... watch it closely and if it dies/is dead, you probably want to clean it off the rock.
