whats to close to place a frag by a Vortech MP10

So i was wondering..I know SPS really love high flow but what would be to close. I have a blue tort frag I have about 6" away from my MP10. This isnt going to blow its flesh off would it? I run my vortech at around 90% in reefcrest mode.

I have some frags 6 inches away from mine but off to the side a bit, maybe an inch, and they are doing fine.

if you see its tissue starting to blow off, then its too close

i would think its just fine if its on 90% reefcrest

i felt a little uneasy..so its same distance away..but its about 2" forward towards the glass out of direct flow. Sometimes I think that whole 6" area right in direct path seems like it could be a blank spot as it just seems like something i put there would get hammered with flow.

An interesting experiment would be to place an upward growing coral (acro, monti digi) below the direct flow path and allow it to grow upward into that strong flow. See what you get. I would think the growing tips would slow their upward growth and start to thicken up to be able to take the flow.

Another interesting option would be something like a monti cap placed just outside that heavy flow and seeing how it reacts as it grows outward into that 6" space. Again, I would think the piece would thicken considerably as it grows to be able to withstand that type of flow. Something to think about.

Scroll corals also strike me as good for such places. Hard, thick growth should fare well under intense flow. They just look like they're built to take it.

I couldnt really do that experiment since the top of my rockwork on the side with the vortech is only about 1/2" lower then the vortech.
