Im setting up a 34g tank and am considering putting a piece of plexi glass on the bottom to protect the glass before I place my sand in. Is this a good idea? Or is it unnecessary.
I don't have anything under my rocks and have never had a problem. Then again I've never really been a big fan of anything that burrows or digs either. When your mounting corals though just be careful. If you apply too much force this can cause the rocks to slide, but this is pretty easy to avoid.
So i decided to put a piece of lexan under the rocks, its just like thin white plexi glass. Its probably not nesessary but makes me feel better about the rocks on my glass bottom. With 3" of aragonite sand on top no one will know but me
A better idea is to drill your base rocks and add acrylic rod "˜legs' to keep them off the bottom. Detritus doesn't get trapped and fish & inverts have extra hiding places
