What's up with monti cap?

I had this large piece of monti cap given to me along with another small piece I have placed elsewhere. I know when you see white edges on these that it means they're growing. This one has developed dark edges all around the back of it. Is this good or bad? Also, I noticed a while back a small cluster in the left center of it that just looks out of place. My cell camera sucks but that's the best shot I can get of it and it's towards the back of the tank.

It looks like it's in higher flow then when it was fragged. The thicker edge and ridges are just a different growth pattern that typically come from higher water movement.

I was thinking it's growing thicker there because I believe those parts were white for a while. The tank it came from has two mp40's and I think the mother coral was in the center of the tank. I only have one wp40 on the opposite end of the tank right now so it's not getting very high flow but it is getting some. I just don't want it to die off. I have had trouble growing these and this one seems to be doing good for the time it's been in there.
