I know these pic's are bad. My clowns have been alone in a 10g for about 6 weeks now and they are not getting any better. Can anyone tell me what this is? It kind of looks white and fuzzy. its on their dorsel fin and on their faces.

If they are in a hospital tank I would try an antibiotic on them and if that does not work I would do a FW dip. A lot of times bacteria and parasites that lives in SW cannot live in FW. However, FW dips are also very stressful on the fish.

I did the recomended treatment with EM tablets and it had no affect. Fish act normal and eat just fine but I know they are not fine. How would I go about the FW dip or is there anything else I can try.

Don't mean to hijack a thread here but with that being said piper would a neon goby not be a good fish to keep in any reef tank just for that purpose????

I have some lugols solution if you would like to use it with your FW dip. If you're going to do a FW dip you have to have the water the same temp and pH of the water they are coming out of. I think they have to stay in the water for five minutes. FW dips are very tough on fish so I would try to treat them with an anti-fungal treatment first. I think melafix might help them.

Cant make out much by the picture. Maybe lymphocystis? I would google that and see if it looks similiar. Just a shot in the dark though.

I thought about lympho too Matt but he said it was fuzzy. Better pics or maybe a description of how/when the spots happened might help.
My guess is a secondary fungal infection. Maybe try something like pimafix or melafix. I wouldn't do a fresh water dip on them for this.
I think Jim suggested a cleaner shrimp to pick the fungus off the injured area not to control parasites...then again it wouldn't be first time I've been completely wrong.

Spinner: I did one and it worked. take and get a big bowl and float in the same tank so that the water gets to the exact temp. while you wait for the temp to reg. get your p.h. the same. I also did not do a five min. one. I did mine for about 1 to 2 min. But if your clown is sick already this could send him over the reef. It sounds like they are healthy because of there eating habits so you should be fine.

I was Amy, they should clean them right up. A fresh dip wouldn't do any good in this case as that is for parasite removal. Pimafix should work great. If its not on an open sore, I have actually had great luck with catching the fish and using my fingernail to simply scrape off the crud.

I'll try and pick up some Pimafix this evening and I guess I need to look into getting a cleaner shrimp. Thanks for all your help and I'll see if I can get some better pics up but its so hard to get good ones of something small that won't stay still.

I whole-heartedly recommend Melafix and Pimafix for this. Sometimes you'll have to use them both in conjunction with one another. Wonderful natural product, and reef safe.
