Whats wrong with this Clam? (T. Crocea)

MeuserReef

Welcome to the next level
It almost appears that there is something eating the mantle on my T. Crocea clam.

This is only on two parts of the mantle but it is slowly getting worse.

Any ideas?

What are the fish in your tank? Crabs? Snails? What are your parameters and what type of lights do you run? How long have you had the clam and how long has your tank been running? This will help us figure it out.

Also can I see a side profile of the clam as well? Will let me know if he is strecthing (hyperextending his mantle) for more light. Thanks!

I have the following:

2 - Clownfish
1 - Cleaner shrimp
1 - Peppermint shrimp
~20 - Turbo snails
ZERO - Crabs

(2) x 150W halides 14K Phoenix DE (definetly not stretching for more light)

Had the clam for over a year with no issues

SG: 1.026
Nitrates ~10 (skimmer sucks)
Nitrite: 0
Ca: ~420
Alk: ~9dKH
Temp 80-82

Tank has been running for 2 years.

I will try to post more pics, but these clearly show the problem that Im talking about.

Anyone else have any guesses as to why it appears that the mantle is pulled in like it is?

Everything there checks out... doesnt look like pinched mantle disease. Have you ever seen any small pyramid snails attached to the base of the clam at all? they journey up to the mantle in the middle of the night and feast on it.

Hey I live in Charlotte NC too, just wondering , where did you get the clam?

I actually live in Houston, TX now... but am originally from Charlotte.

I got the clam at City Pets in Houston. (Im sure that doesnt help)

I think that, based off of the number of tiny snails that I have seen lately, that the problem Im having with my clam is related to the pyramid snails.

I never noticed anything wrong with the clam until a few weeks after I noticed a surge in small snails... coincidence.... I think NOT

what you are seeing isnt caused by pyrams. they pierce the flesh and suck the fluids, they dont eat the clam

Got ya! I will get some better pics up tonight to help you see the entire clam. Its kinda weird. Its almost as if part of the clam is dissolving.
