i'm looking to add one to my 75g tank. right now i have 2 small snowflake clowns, 2 longnosed hawkfish, 1 royal gramma, 1 orange spotted goby, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 serpent star, 2 brittle stars (one big enough to eat st. louis), a few turbo snails, various corals.

and while we're at it, i need some more color in my tank. what's a good option for something with some yellow? not gonna do a tang.

Lubbocks fairy wrasse is a favorite of mine. Attractive, inexpensive, and docile, IME.

Yellow Halichoeres chrysus wrasses are a bit larger, but also stay pretty mellow IME.

I also like Halichoeres biocellatus. Small and colorful.

I really don't have just one ...I keep mostly Tamarins and Leopards. I like their beauty and the challange of keeping them....most are peaceful and tolorate of other wrasses....

Our solar wrasse is my favorite very colorful and a great tank mate. They are also reef safe and it leaves the corals alone.

thanks for the opinions/recommendations! according to liveaquaria, the red line wrasse and the yellow wrasse may eat feather dusters. i have several dusters in my tank. wonder what the chances are.

the lubbock's is very pretty and looks like it might be the best choice. ya think? :)

I love my candy cane. never bothers anything.

This is my Kwazulu Fairy wrasse I caught in about 100ft of water. I find these species are really docile.

When they say that they are usually referring to the tiny little ones covering your live rock, not large ones that you specifically purchased. YMMV of course

My absolute fave is the female bipartitus wrasse. 2nd is the lunar wrasse for personality; except he demolished my snails...How about a yellow coris wrasse?

The best yellow fish I've seen for your size aqaurium is the Candy Cane Hogfish imo. It's electic yellow and easy to keep and feed ime. It isn't a wrasse but it does have a similar body shape to that really nice wrasse above. I have a large one (just shy of 4 inches) and am receiving a small one (1inch) tomorrow to replace it. The reason for the replacemant is that it is too aggressive at feeding time. It has been exiled to the sump and is awaiting a trip to the LFS for credit. I had to replace it with another small 1 because it looks great, and because of it's activity level and swimming style . The small one arrives tomorrow by airmail. I hoping with the smaller size it'll adopt it's place in an otherwise peaceful tank.

Fish in my tank that it looks better than
Male Randall's anthia
Nemo
Yellow tail damsel
Tied in looks with Helfrichi firefish
Also better looking than my female Bathyphilus wrasse...the male of this species may be a different story. The male Flame Wrasse is my best looking recommendation for a fish with it's yellow orange and red. The Yellow Coris wrasse is my all yellow wrasse recommendation, if you have at least a 1 inch fine particle sandbed. It sleeps in the sand to avoid night predators in the wild, and would be highly stressed in captivity without it. The male Bathyphilus from the coral sea or the Vanuatu variant are really nice looking and have some yellow too.
Tomorrow I'm receiving my favorite looking fairy wrasse. A 3 inch male Lineatus wrasse.
My favorite fish currently in my tank is a large male Royal flasher wrasse.
The Bell's flasher or the Lineatus wrasse are my top two favorites.

There are a lot of good looking fish in the sea;)...especially wrasses. Btw I meant Candy Hogfish not Candy Cane Hogfish which is on my wishlist. Google rare wrasse and click on the picture links to find some really good reading.

Nina,

I had a Lubbocks that was absolutely stunning for a couple of years. I have no idea how old it was when I got it or what their normal lifespan is, but it died one day out of the blue.

I also recently purchased a young McKoskers wrasse. It was beautiful, but only lasted a couple of weeks before it made the leap for freedom. I still can't figure out how it made it through the 1/4" mesh screen over the tank. :(

ry, i've looked at the lubbocks seriously. i really like them. maybe yours was old when you got it?

i have a couple of places where my return jets are that i will have to cover as they are big enough for a suicidal fish. but wow, 1/4"??? yikes!

I've been looking for another lubbocks, but I haven't seen one in a couple of years. Mine may have been old. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a birth certificate.

Here's my cover over the 75G
