i thought things in the fish tank likes 72-77... cuz thats what i was looking up on liveaquaria.com or something...

yeah i dont know why they post that.. the best temps are between 77 and 83 .. when you go above or below those temps bad things can start to happen....

I don't think im going to make it through summer if I don't buy a chiller or make something like Sam's cousin ... yesterday my tank hit 88 I lost my frogspawn and my xenia isn't doing so well ... all because a malfunctioning Thermometer.... Damn Rookies!!! need to remember to check those little things that are so important.... I hooked up my fans yesterday we will see how the tank does today....

peaked two days ago at 81.5 but even in this hot streak stays 77.5 > 80.5. no house AC running just a fan in the stand blowing across the sump and two fans in the hood.

A lot of evaportion though. about 5gallons in 24hour period. i should get an auto top off. adding kalk 5gals at a time cant be good for my tank.

~80. No Chiller. Ceiling fan in the fish room and a small clip on blowing across the back of the canop.

Oh yeah.. I live in HESPERIA. lol. It's cooler up here than it was out in Ontario/ San Bernardino. :) :)

Before chiller 83-84 degrees with two fans in the canopy and during the hottest days one large fan in the sump (although this caused LOTS of evaporation). Had chiller installed last week, now 77-78 degrees everyday with NO stress thinking about the tank everyday. Less evaporation (90% less) and NO fish and corals dying. This is the best investment I have made for the tank. Why spend so much $$ for a tank and not invest in a chiller??

i just started my first tank about 5months ago and my first inhabitants were a pair of skunk cleaner shrimps. They were very small when i first got them and 5 months later, they were huge... like the size of a middle finger. Then just now, when i got home from work noticed the shrimps were dead. Tried to figure out why the died when theyve been doing so good, molting and spawning every 2 weeks. I checked the temp and reading was 90. Oh man!!! I was pretty late for work this morning and forgot to turn on the fans. I run the lights 10pm-6am so the lights werent on. Such a loss!! They went for a burial at sea through the porcelain express. Godspeed my lil shrimpies...

oh man.. i didnt know that.. damn that sucks, yeh i run my fans on sometimes when i dont have my ac on..fans are good chillers. i dont think my tank has ever gone above 84.

180 with sump and equipement outside. Night time temp 78-79. Day time temps 80-82. Halides auto shut-off above 82F. Recently added used chiller. Not sure where temps would be without.

Winter - night 77 w/heater, Day 78.

Nicole, I too noticed recently decline in night time cooling. Think it is combo of night time temps and higher humidity.

78.8 at this moment and when 3- 250 DE's (less than 8" from the waters surface) and 2- 72" HO T5's have run for 10 hours it will reach 81.
I use two 40+ CFM comp. fans in the canopy and two 70+ CFM fans blowing directly onto the surface water of the sump. Ambient for the last few days has been 88-90. No chiller or home AC. Lots of evaporation
