whats your temperature right now?

mine stay at 78.5 at night and 80 durring mid day(hottes point) w/chiller and AC set at 80, since the sun hits my room from 10-5pm its gets realy hot in there

79-80 in the SPS system and 79-80 in the soft coral tanks in San Bernardino. Tanks are in the back shop and the swamp cooler has been on for about 10 days non-stop.
The SPS system has 5 fans on a controller and the soft coral system has a 1/4 hp JBJ. I should be picking up a Corallife 1/2hp for the SPS system Saturday PM.

Other than that it's hot as heck here and I'm going home to the AC and Corona.

84.5 here right now without the chiller running. No point since its cycling... At night time it drops to about 82. no fans

Best fan placement is pointing directly down over the water, a few inches away. Eggcrate a must here! If you can't cool your tank at least 3F is a simple desk-size slip-in fan (~5") you have got issues.

Second best is inside the canopy, IMO.

mines 75.9 right now with no lights... haha

You might want to consider using a heater to minimize temperature swings and pick a higher set-point, depending on what you keep. Many reefs have naturally warmer waters (around 80F-84F), but in the aquarium the fast temperature swings are most dangerous.

I keep my minimum temp at ~80F with a heater and try to maintain <82F with fans and light control. Without the heater, nightime temp would often drop to the mid-70s, which would be too large a difference for my comfort.

thats too low... you should have it at least at 77

79 in the morning, 81 at the end of the day (halides and VHO). One fan on a temp controller. I am evaping about 2.5 gallons a day.

My cousin made this sweet DIY Chiller.

A 22.5g igloo Ice Chest. 2 holes in Ice chest. 15ft of return line)Around 10 feet coiled in the chest.
He fills the igloo up with tap water then froze 2-2ltr frozen bottles of water. In themorning when they are melted he has 2 more frozen oneswaiting in the freezer...I was amazed at his creativeness!!

He doesnt have AC but his fish are living it up...

I thought I was OK with a maximum high of 81.3 with two in-canopy fans plus a clip-on.

But, apparently not..after more than a week of this heat it seems I'm losing 1 scoly and 1 tooth/meat brain, frogspawn isn't looking so hot either but all other LPS,clams, fish and shrimp are fine.I wish I would've gone in on the chiller buy.

Gina If the heat continues, and you have 20 bux in your purse, make the one I posted above:D

When the weather was humid last week I needed 2 fans to keep my water below 83 at the max. Normally I can keep it less than 82 with just one 9" fan on medium speed.
