I am sorry to ask this question and I am sure it has been asked but when a coral turns white from the bottom and when it turns white from the top and spreads downward which is bleaching from the light?

Is it bleaching or recessing? Bleaching from light usually starts at the tips. But so does alk burn. Recession from the base can be inadequate flow or possibly PO4 wicking from the rocks.

could be bleaching....also important to see how fast it occurs, sometimes bleaching is overnight sometimes it is very slow. If its slow, sometimes it recovers or you can even cut the coral far enough above to save it from further bleaching....

Last night when I got in from CA I noticed a part of this particular coral was bleaching from the bottom. By this morning part of a branch was bleached as well. I have good flow in the tank. I will however cut the bleached part off. How can I save the rest of the coral?

is it bleaching or is the tissue missing? if its just loosing color but the tissue and polyps are still there, you don't need to cut if off. if the tissue is receeding, then you need to frag the healthy part off and mount it elsewhere
