When can I breathe easy? Elegance coral

I've had this elegance coral since the beginning of November. It appears to very healthy and eats well. It opens and closes at about the same times as my scolymia. Here some pics of it. I just want to know when and if I'll ever know it won't get "the disease or curse or whatever". Assuming I keep up the same care.

I just really love this coral and he's a good eater (mysis, silversides, whatever he catches). Since I've had him he's grown a new mouth and I've just taken a photo of him "healing" himself. When I got him part of the rim was not connected to the shell (I call it "the taco"). Last week he sent out "fibers" over that part of the rim and since then the rim or lip has healed! I was so happy.

Congrats man! Looks good. I just lost one last week. It deteriorated slowly and was hard to watch. I just kept crossing my fingers until it started to break apart and then I had to put it out of its misery. Best of luck w/ yours.

About 6 months. Its body got extremely bloated and the tentacles would not extend more than a quarter inch or so. After that it took about 2 months to do it in.

I remember your post "is this a normal elegance"? I read it because I had one too. I'm sorry yours got the "crud". Mine hasn't shown any signs of the bloat or shortened tentacles. Maybe I'll be lucky and get the 1 out of 1000 (someone posted that on your post I think). I guess I can never really breathe too easy.

Anyway, again sorry yours didn't make it.

Hi, I have had an elegance for about 2 1/2 years now and yours looks great. The extra mouth head growing is great news and your tentacles look great. The thing you want to look for is the tisue around the mouth changeing colors and loosing zoanthelia. Look on the marine depot forem under eric bournamens elegance study i have pics of mine there. He explains alot. Anyway you have a stunning elegance and its looking great!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll make sure and read the other forum. I like to read as much as possible and then pick out the techniques that seem to be the most effective.

Thanks everyone - Clownchic :p

I think if he does keep the same healthy look as when you 1st got him by the end of this month then he should be a keeper. But if you see any decline in the next couple weeks then thats not good. Its usually around the 2-3 month mark.

Very nice elegance and good luck!

Mine was great and growing for about 6 months. One night my fire shrimp stole a piece of silverside from it after he had it half down. I dont know if the fire shrimp somehow injured it or what but after that night it would never eat again and slowly went downhill. After about 2 more months it was gone???

Thanks everyone

I really appreciate the replies. My reef is more than to me than a pretty moving piece of furniture - they are my pets.

Thanks again - Clownchic
