When is the next meeting?

An idea for a topic may be expanding the hobby in our area, and membership expansion. I would love to see us get 300 members state wide.

I think for april we will try to do a more regional thing. Throw some ideas out here.. Maybe a regional tank tour or something to get it started..

Also in May we will have the behind the scenes tour of the omaha zoo..

Then we will be doing an auction in Coralivlle and a bbq.. Essentially we supply the burgers.. Everyone brings a dish.. Should be fun t oget outside. The place that we are thinking has an air conditioned large room so we can have the corals in a good environment. This will be in June/July

What other ideas do we have ?
 
I like the idea of a regional tank tour. Gives everyone a chance to see others tanks.

I do think a discussion on membership expansion is a GOOD idea. It seems around the Des Moines and IA city areas there's starting to be quite a few people but around wloo/CF it's pretty lacking. NEED MORE LOCALS! :D

Is there a firm date on the zoo trip?
 
Just emailed Mitch to see.. Well maybe we can talk to the stores in your area and see if they will allow fliers or maybe do a tank tour and publish it around on fliers to get people into the hobby.

Def. wouldn't hurt to talk to the stores and make them see the benefits of having more people involved in the saltwater hobby. With emporium relocating and getting a face lift this could def. benefit them I would think. Just got to make sure it looks like it's benefitting them! ;)
 
I think there are quite a few people doing salt water tanks, more & more all the time. Most people dont even know we exist. Petco here in Wloo cant seem to keep any saltwater fish in stock, which is sad considering the condition of their stock & tanks.
 
So whos a good salesmen up here that can talk to these people? I'd be willing to help out with whatever we need. I'm not much of a salesmen though! :D
 
I can sell ice to an eskimo. We can put together some ideas at the next meeting & I would be glad to hit all the waterloo area shops. Jim from Emporium & Jen from Fish Focus are customers of mine.

I couldn't sell it to a guy in a Desert! :D Glad to see you aleady possible have your foot in the door with them. When it comes down to it whatever we need to do I'll help out.
 
I've talked to John at emporium about supporting us and he is all for it....my only concern was the appearance of there saltwater tanks at the time discrediting us......as for Jenny we aren't exactly on speaking terms but thats between us.....if someone would like to talk to her i don't think it would hurt a bit......I can also talk to John about giving our members discounts off certain things ....maybe having one of Jeremy's signs (cause they are way cooler than mine) posted in the salt area all the time so we can get some more awareness out there....especially for the frag auction......almost everyone i know loves cheap frags
 
Hopefully with emporiums new store they'll have a much "cleaner" enviroment to start off with, and they'll maintain that with their tanks as well. If he's up for helping out the club then I say lets do it! It WILL benefit him in the long run anyway!

I've never been to fish focus yet, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to see what they have to say. The worse they can say is NO! :D
 
i talked to emporium and they said they were cool with the sponsering he even said he would donate stuff for the raffles .....so if someone wants to talk to jenny we'll be good in the waterloo area
 
Well, if this is going to happen, we need to nail down a date and get some votes on who's tank you want to see in your area. How about April 22nd. We could do the 8th, but that might not be enough time to organize, and the 15th is out. What do you think.

That weekend would probably work for me as well. Afternoons are always better! :D

I'll gladly show off my ghetto tank.

I don't think that every area would have to have it on the same day though. Actually it might be nice if they weren't that way if someone wanted to go somewhere else as well they could check out more tanks.
