When to use a heater?

Hi,

It's freezing outside and it's like 0 degrees Celsius.

But my tank temp is 26.2 degrees celsius right now.

So when should I use a heater? Or it isn't really needed?

Well, unless you keep your tank outside, it's ambient room temperature that's the key. Don't know too many folks that run a reef tank without a heater.

Agreed what ever the room temperature is, is what the aquarium water will be at. Even if the temperature drops (depending on the volume of water) you aquarium will maintain its temperature for a some time (of course the greater the difference in temperature, the faster the change will occur) However it is the opinion of most reefers to use a heater to maintain a stable temperature throughout the day unless you are keeping a Siamese fighting fish then you might be able to get away with not having one.

Temp is one of those things that helps to provide stability to our tanks. Place a heater in your tank or sump and set it for your desired temp, it will turn on when needed.
