well since Leds are on all our minds at this point, here is one more aspect to see down the line, we are now seeing different colors besides white and blue, and i view that as a crucial part of what i would like to have if and when i go with leds. ran across this though, apparently you dont need specific leds for a color i gather and if they just make super controllable fixture then this is what it needs to have no ? video below

so out of our sweet club, who is pondering which fixtures of leds that they would go with ???? , or diy's ????? im curious to find out what your research is telling you is best !!!

I been wondering the same thing, Like how a fiji purple t5 brings out the red and orange colors. Companies were prob planning on coming out with purple led's after everyone buys leds with only blue and white LOL

true, well i believe they can have the par and grow sps but maybe those few whispers about long term have something to do with the missing spectrum of color or colors ???

When I upgraded my current tank I really researched this (with Hans help) but quickly realized it was like a plasma TV, or an LCD TV, or an LED TV or the latest and fastest computer out there!! Especially cost. :headwallblue: Spend the money this month then regret it the next. I still think there is a ways to go and IMO I would rather not fund the research!! :) But they are really cool.

yup. If they really sold a fixture that was good for more than a few yrs they would go out of business pretty quickly

well thats one side of it. its like t lock shingles on a house, they quit making them because they would last for so long, haha.

I do see a fixture in mind with many color leds to choose from, but yet still unproven and around the $2500 range just for a 4 foot one.

yes, but jay if you see kevins tank with just the blue leds on you will be researching a bit more sooner than later.

I am looking into getting some of these : Evolution LED Light 120w 1G [14K]

http://reefkoi.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=1438

Ive been reading alot of forums on RC about these and for the price, they tend to do the job well. that way in a year or so when some thing else comes along I wont be too mad about changing my lights

THis is very similar to the light I am running and so far it has been awesome. My sps is growing well but the color's are fantastic. My zoas are also loving it and are growing like crazy. I have been experimenting with different corals at different heights and locations and so far I have not had any problems.

Ben, the LED bug bit me when I saw them on your tank. I like the colors that came from your light and ever since then I have been looking into these. What is the bulb ration on your light?

It is 119 1W LED's. It is a 2:1 ratio blue to white. At some point I will get another to cover the second half of the tank. I waiting to make sure I got the results I wanted. So far it has delivered.

Going with Sol! They are Cree's and are controllable, dimmable, and can actually does cloud coverage and lightening!!! It uses a lot less LED then the others and the par was amazing when i tested it with the Apogee Par meter. Thanks

If I were a baller like you Steffen I would go with Sol aswell. :)

I am actually looking into the Orphek LED setup similar to the Sol minus the lightning but a little less expensive....

Steban where did you get the PAR meter? Do you still have access to it? If so let's hook up and test the actual PAR #'s I am getting in my tank and I will post them.

Do you guys think 100 or 120 watts of leds would be good enough for Sps over my 120 ? It would be a linear fixture ? I'm calculating about 200 would be about right ?
